Designing for Sensation: The Mikvah Experience Social Post
When I began the “Do You Feel Purified?” graphic for Mispar, I knew the challenge wasn’t just aesthetics. It was empathy. The Mikvah experience is profoundly personal, intimate, and often spiritual. It demanded a visual approach that was respectful, inviting, and emotionally resonant.
The core goal of this post was to invite women into a study with a sense of security and introspection. I chose the visual metaphor of being submerged because it speaks to total presence, letting go, and being surrounded by something clean and profound. Instead of showing a person, which can feel too specific or intrusive, I let the water itself become the environment and the subject.
The visual is split into two zones. The area above the waterline, where the text “DO YOU FEEL” sits, represents the external, the world we operate in. It’s clean, bright, and familiar. Below the surface, where “PURIFIED?” resides, is the emotional space. It’s where the real, reflective question lives. It’s deeper, quieter, and full of potential. By splitting the question across this visual boundary, I aimed to draw the viewer from their everyday perspective into a moment of deeper contemplation.
The color palette was strictly controlled to evoke calmness and trust. I deliberately chose a deep, indigo blue for the background. This color is universally associated with depth, spirituality, and peace, feeling secure, like a quiet room. The text “PURIFIED?” was given a lighter, almost ethereal cyan glow. This represents the feeling of clarity or light rising from the depths, the ultimate goal of purification. The overall effect is designed to be the opposite of jarring. It’s an invitation to pause, giving the sensitive subject matter the space and dignity it requires.
The final composition is less a graphic and more a visual breath. It’s designed to make the viewer feel like they are standing at the edge of a still pool, about to lean in and reflect. That emotional connection is what drives participation in a sensitive project like this.
